Our Story
From local beginnings to a trusted North West facilities partner, our journey has always been driven by quality and care.

Built on Trust. Driven by Quality.
SCS Facility Services began in 1996, not as a business plan, but out of necessity.
Sarah, the founder of the business and Nathan’s mum, was a single parent living on a council estate raising two young children. Times were extremely hard, shaped by personal loss, financial pressure and uncertainty. To make ends meet, Sarah began ironing for people locally, which soon developed into cleaning homes. Everything was built on trust, hard work and pride in doing a job properly.

Sarah’s standards quickly stood out. One customer invited her to a meeting to discuss taking on void property cleaning work. It was unfamiliar territory and an intimidating step, but Sarah agreed to take on the opportunity. She left the meeting unsure how it would be delivered, but determined to make it work.
Day after day, Sarah worked alone until the workload became too much. She employed her first member of staff and replaced her car with a van. Sarah’s Cleaning Company was formed and word spread rapidly within the social housing sector due to the consistent quality of work delivered.
Nathan joined the business straight after leaving school when the team was still small, with just three people delivering all works. Working alongside Sarah, he adopted the same attention to detail and standards that the business had been built on, supporting across cleaning, waste removals, pest control and general site works as required. With a small team, everyone was hands on and focused on delivering work properly, which helped strengthen the company’s reputation with clients.
As the workload increased, more opportunities to support clients began to appear. Sarah recognised that many housing providers and managing agents were being let down by inconsistent service and poor communication from contractors. Rather than see clients struggle, she chose to step in and provide reliable solutions. With her reputation already established and a trusted team around her, the business began to grow organically.
Additional vehicles were added, including caged tippers, and the team continued to expand. Services moved beyond cleaning into areas such as waste removals, pest control, grounds maintenance and specialist cleaning, allowing SCS to support clients more fully across their properties.
As the business developed, further training followed for the team, including specialist courses in trauma and crime scene cleaning, pest control and other regulated services. This ensured the company could safely and compliantly deliver an expanding range of works.
Sarah’s work and leadership began to gain wider recognition within the industry. Over the years she achieved a number of awards reflecting the standards and reputation she built from the ground up:

2012 EVA Business Woman of the Year
2013 EVA Highly Commended Inspirational Woman of the Year
2014 North West Entrepreneur of the Year
2015 Golden Service Award
UK Best Specialist Cleaning Company
As the company continued to evolve, it became clear that the name no longer reflected the true nature of the services being delivered. What began as a cleaning company had grown into a multi discipline property services provider. SCS Facility Services was formed to better represent the scope of works and the direction of growth.
Today, SCS Facility Services employs over 35 people and operates a fleet of around 30 vehicles, delivering services across housing, commercial and managed properties. Many client relationships span more than 15 years, reflecting the trust built through consistent delivery and strong partnerships.
Sarah now works two days a week, having laid the foundations of the business through resilience, determination and high standards. Nathan now leads the day to day running of the company as Managing Director, continuing the standards that built the business while guiding its next phase of growth.

Having worked within the business from the ground up and delivered the services hands on for many years, Nathan has a detailed understanding of how the work is carried out on site and the pressures clients face. From early morning cleans and waste removals through to pest control, specialist cleaning and wider property services, that practical experience continues to shape how the business operates today. It ensures decisions are realistic, communication is clear and works are delivered in a way that genuinely supports clients, their teams and their tenants.
This hands on background, combined with a focus on compliance, documentation and partnership working, allows SCS to bridge the gap between what clients need on paper and what actually works on site. The aim has always been simple: deliver properly, communicate clearly and be the contractor clients can rely on.
The industry continues to evolve. While word of mouth remains important, frameworks, audit trails and accountable delivery now define success. SCS Facility Services remains committed to staying ahead of these changes while holding onto the standards, work ethic and straight talking approach the business was built on.
